Argentina's March friendly is now in jeopardy.

Details: According to renowned journalist Esteban Edul, the Argentine Football Association has canceled the Albiceleste's friendly against Guatemala, which was scheduled for March 31.

Earlier, Argentina had agreed to face Guatemala in a friendly after the Finalissima against Spain was scrapped, following the relocation of the Qatar match due to military conflict and the inability to secure a new venue.

One theory is that FIFA intervened and called off the Guatemala clash because Guatemala are set to play Algeria in Italy on March 27, and then would have had to face Argentina on another continent just three days later. This would violate FIFA regulations, which stipulate that teams cannot play matches on different continents within such a short time frame.

At the moment, the AFA is working hard to find a new opponent for Argentina, with national teams from Africa emerging as the leading candidates.

Reminder: The outcome is near. Finalissima 2026 might be canceled for an intriguing reason
