AFCON Squad Row: Gusau Clears the Air

Nigeria Football Federation president Ibrahim Gusau has denied claims the federation interfered in Super Eagles squad selection for the Africa Cup of Nations. Head coach Eric Chelle recently cut a 54-man provisional list to 28, sparking accusations of official influence.

Speaking on Eagle 102.5 FM with Segun Odegbami, Gusau warned against rumors, describing the space as “highly polluted” with agents. He insisted, “I will never tell a coach to pick this player or that player…,” adding that he avoids team camps to prevent distractions, nationwide debate.
