Pisa manager Alberto Gilardino has revealed that the Africa Cup of Nations took a physical toll on Nigerian midfielder Ebenezer Akinsanmiro. The Super Eagles star struggled in Pisa’s 6-2 defeat to his parent club, Inter Milan, and was substituted at halftime.

Akinsanmiro, usually one of Pisa’s standout performers this season, looked off the pace and failed to dominate midfield as expected. Since returning from AFCON duty, his form has dipped, worrying the coaching staff.

Ahead of Pisa’s clash with Sassuolo, Gilardino urged calm and focus on recovery.

“He was penalised physically by the Africa Cup of Nations… Now he needs to stay calm and get back to his best condition,” the coach said.

Akinsanmiro missed six league games during the tournament.
