The Confederation of African Football may reconsider its decision to hold the Africa Cup of Nations every four years.

Its president, Patrice Motsepe, has announced that a return to a biennial schedule is under consideration. Announced in December 2025, the decision to switch the Africa Cup of Nations to a four-year cycle could be reviewed at the next meeting of the Executive Committee of African football’s governing body.

Speaking at the CAF strategic conference being held in Cape Verde, Patrice Motsepe raised the possibility of returning to holding the tournament every two years. “We are looking into the possibility of bringing the Africa Cup of Nations back to a biennial cycle. This is currently under review,” said the CAF president.

This statement suggests a possible revision of the schedule for the continent’s premier competition, for which a switch to a four-year cycle had been announced in December 2025. For the time being, no decision has been taken. The matter is expected to be considered by the CAF Executive Committee.
