AFCON 2027 Qualifiers: Algeria Beat Zambia 3-1 in Group Opener

Algeria have begun their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying campaign with a 3-1 victory over Zambia.

The hosts made a flying start at the 2nd minute when Jaouen Hadjam opened the scoring, with Mohamed Amoura providing the assist.

Algeria carried their 1-0 advantage into half-time, but Zambia came out strongly after the break and found an equaliser in the 57th minute. Fashion Sakala finished the move to make it 1-1, with Simukonda credited with the assist.

The Desert Foxes responded quickly and restored their lead in the 67th minute through Ibrahim Maza, with Amoura once again involved in the build-up.

Algeria then put the result beyond doubt in the 74th minute when Anis Hadj Moussa scored their third goal of the match.

The victory gives Algeria a winning start to their AFCON 2027 qualifying campaign as they begin their push for a place at the tournament.
