AFCON 2025: Udinese Head Coach Kosta Runjaic Confirms Maduka Okoye to Join Super Eagles After Napoli Clash
Udinese head coach Kosta Runjaic has confirmed that Nigerian goalkeeper Maduka Okoye will join the Super Eagles squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) on Saturday, December 14, immediately following Udinese’s Serie A fixture against Napoli.
In a statement on the club’s official website, Runjaic acknowledged the challenge of losing multiple key players to international duty but stressed that the club had anticipated the situation.
“We’re considering this issue. After Napoli, we’ll probably no longer have Rui Modesto, Okoye, Bayo, and Zemura, but we’ve known about it for some time,” Runjaic said.
Okoye has been in impressive form for Udinese this season and is expected to be a key figure in Nigeria’s final AFCON 2025 squad under head coach Eric Chelle. He will depart for national team duty shortly after the Napoli match, as the Super Eagles prepare to announce their final tournament roster in the coming days.
