AFCON 2025: Touré Names Super Eagles Tournament’s Standout Team

Nigeria may not have won the Africa Cup of Nations 2025, but Yaya Touré believes the Super Eagles were the tournament’s most impressive side. The former Barcelona and Manchester City midfielder praised Nigeria’s attacking football, goals and authority throughout the competition.

Nigeria scored 14 goals, the highest at the tournament, and conceded only four, remaining defensively solid in the knockout rounds until their semi-final loss to hosts Morocco on penalties.

Touré, speaking to Bleacher Report Football, said, “I was impressed with Nigeria, Nigeria play good football… it feels like full attack.” He also recalled Nigeria’s quarter-final win over Algeria, noting, “I’ve been impressed with Algeria; unfortunately, they get kicked out by Nigeria.”

While acknowledging Morocco’s “very pragmatic” approach, Touré was clear in his verdict: “The most impressive for me… was Nigeria.”

Nigeria finished with bronze, but left AFCON with widespread respect.
