AFCON 2025: Super Eagles Trio Named in CAF Team of the Tournament

Three Nigerian players have been selected in CAF’s official Team of the Tournament for AFCON 2025, placing the Super Eagles on the same level as champions Senegal in the final XI. Following Nigeria’s third-place finish in Morocco, defender Calvin Bassey and forwards Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman were rewarded for their standout displays across the competition.

Bassey was a commanding presence at the back, leading the tournament in touches and completed passes, with his one-on-one defending in the knockout rounds drawing praise.

Lookman stood out creatively, ending the tournament with seven goal involvements, including three goals and four assists.

Osimhen led the line with intensity, scoring four goals and adding two assists, including crucial strikes in the knockout stages.

Despite claims of “mediocrity” from some critics, CAF’s selection highlights Nigeria’s quality and offers optimism for AFCON 2027.
