AFCON 2025: Super Eagles Set to Depart Cairo for Fez as Tournament Preparations Intensify
The Super Eagles of Nigeria are scheduled to depart Cairo, Egypt, for Fez, Morocco, today as they step up preparations for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Head coach Eric Chelle and his squad opened their pre-tournament camp in Cairo on Sunday, using the short stay in Egypt to fine-tune preparations ahead of the continental showpiece. The camp was completed on Wednesday night following the arrival of star striker Victor Osimhen, which ensured that all 28 invited players were present.
Officials of the national team have confirmed that the Super Eagles will leave Cairo at midday, bringing their brief but intense pre-AFCON camp in Egypt to an end. The stay included a high-profile friendly match against the seven-time African champions, which served as a key test ahead of the tournament.
Nigeria will be based in Fez for the group stage of AFCON 2025. The Super Eagles have been drawn in Group C, where they will face Tanzania, Tunisia, and Uganda. All of Nigeria’s group matches will be played at the Complexe Sportif de Fès.
The Super Eagles will begin their AFCON 2025 campaign against Tanzania on Tuesday, 23 December, before taking on Tunisia on 27 December and rounding off the group stage against Uganda on 30 December.
