AFCON 2025: Super Eagles Coach Eric Chelle Reportedly Owed Three Months’ Salary by NFF
Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle is reportedly owed three months’ salary and outstanding bonuses by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) as Nigeria intensifies its preparations for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The situation came to public attention after BBC Sport journalist Oluwashina Okeleji revealed the information on his X account, stating:
“Nigeria coach Eric Chelle is owed THREE MONTHS salary and bonuses ahead of the AFCON.”
Despite the reports, it is understood that Chelle, who guided the Super Eagles to the 2026 FIFA World Cup playoff round, has not filed an official complaint with the NFF regarding the unpaid wages. Instead, the Mali-born tactician is said to be fully focused on the national team’s AFCON plans.
The revelation has sparked debate among Super Eagles supporters, many of whom have voiced concerns over repeated salary controversies involving national team coaches.
Nevertheless, Chelle remains committed to the job and is expected to announce his 28-man provisional squad later this week, with the AFCON tournament set to kick off before the end of the month.
