AFCON 2025: Senegal's Head Coach Sets Sights on Second Africa Cup of Nations Title in Morocco

Senegal's head coach, Pape Thiaw's dedicated to leading the Lions of Teranga to a second AFCON title as they prepare for the 2025 tournament in Morocco. Thiaw acknowledged the challenges in their group but said he was confident in his team's chances after the tournament draw in Rabat.

He declared, "We are Senegal, and we'll do everything to succeed, even though we'll be up against tough teams." Senegal has been selected to play against Botswana, Benin and the Democratic Republic of the Congo in Group D.

Benin and Botswana present their own difficulties, but the DR Congo, the 2024 AFCON semi finalists, will be a formidable opponent. Thiaw emphasized the need for focus and preparation for each match.

As one of the tournament’s favorites, Senegal enters the competition with momentum, following their win in the 2023 African Nations Championship. Ranked 2nd in Africa and 17th globally, Thiaw's determined to capture his team’s second AFCON title, following their victory in 2021.

“We will fight for victory and aim to make our fans proud,” Thiaw concluded. The team, led by experienced stars like Kalidou Koulibaly and Sadio Mané, is ready to continue their dominance in African football.
