AFCON 2025: Senegal Begin Group D Campaign Against Botswana

Senegal will open their Group D campaign at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations against Botswana on Tuesday afternoon at the Grand Stade de Tanger. The former champions arrive in Morocco in fine form, having gone unbeaten in qualifying with five wins and a draw, and are now led by new coach Pape Thiaw. With only one defeat in their last seven matches, Senegal are seen as one of the tournament favourites.

Botswana return to AFCON for the first time in 13 years and come in as underdogs. However, coach Morena Ramoreboli’s side showed resilience in a recent 2-2 draw with Guinea and are expected to adopt a compact, defensive approach. Senegal have a perfect competitive record against the Zebras, winning 3-0 and 2-0 in 2014 overall so far.
