AFCON 2025: Opta Boosts Super Eagles’ Title Odds After Perfect Group Run
Nigeria’s Super Eagles have seen their chances of winning the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations rise after an impressive group-stage performance. Data analysts at Opta now rate Nigeria higher than before, following three straight wins that delivered nine points.
Before the tournament, Opta’s supercomputer gave the team a modest 7.3% chance of lifting the trophy, ranking them behind Morocco, Egypt, Senegal and Algeria. Those odds reflected concerns over defensive absences and a tough group.
Nigeria answered decisively, brushing aside Tunisia, Uganda and Tanzania to top Group C. As a result, Opta revised their title probability upward to 10.09%.
The Super Eagles next face Mozambique in the Round of 16, before a potentially brutal knockout path that could include DR Congo, Algeria, Morocco, Cameroon or South Africa. Momentum is building.
