AFCON 2025 Opener: Tanzania Declare Readiness for Nigeria Test

Tanzania coach Manuel Gomandi says the Taifa Stars are “more than ready” for their AFCON 2025 Group C opener against Nigeria on Tuesday. Speaking before the match, Gomandi admitted his side are underdogs but insisted preparation has been solid. “We are very well prepared and excited to be part of this AFCON… We are more than ready for tomorrow’s game,” he said.

The game is the first AFCON meeting between both teams since 1980, when Nigeria won 3–1 on their way to a first title. Gomandi warned his players must be disciplined against Nigeria’s stars, including Victor Osimhen. “We need to be very careful… there should not be any room for mistakes,” he added. The pressure will test Tanzania’s focus.
