AFCON 2025: Ivory Coast's Strengths According to Gervinho

The reigning AFCON champions dream of conquering Africa once again. This is an opinion shared by former Ivory Coast player Gervinho. According to him, Ivory Coast has what it takes for AFCON 2025.

Gervinho made these remarks during an interview with the CAF media team. The former Elephants winger believes that Ivory Coast possesses individual talent. If this talent is harnessed for the benefit of the team, they could secure another continental title. Therefore, according to the 2015 African champion, team cohesion is one of Ivory Coast's strengths at AFCON 2025.

"First, there are the individual talents. “In Ivory Coast, we’ve always had players capable of making the difference on their own, talents who naturally stand out,” he began, before adding, “but the most important asset is the team. We saw it during the last AFCON: when the team spirit took over, everything fell into place. Individual players put themselves at the service of the group, and that’s how the team progressed. I also felt an incredible motivation. Even when down to ten men, some players transcended themselves for the country. That’s what struck me the most,” Gervinho stated.

Regarding the 2025 AFCON, Ivory Coast shares the same group as Cameroon, Gabon, and Mozambique.
