AFCON 2025: Idrissa Gana Gueye Dismisses Food Poisoning Claims During AFCON Final With Morocco
Senegal midfielder Idrissa Gana Gueye has firmly dismissed reports claiming that members of the Teranga Lions squad suffered food poisoning during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final against Morocco.
Speculation had circulated on social media alleging that Moroccan officials had deliberately poisoned members of the Teranga Lions in a bid to weaken the team before the high-stakes final. The unverified claims suggested that several players experienced stomach-related issues in the build-up to the final, sparking widespread debate among fans and football observers across the continent.
However, Gueye moved swiftly to shut down the speculation, describing the allegations as false and misleading. The Everton midfielder insisted that there was no incident of food poisoning and stressed that the team took strict precautions throughout the tournament.
“We were not poisoned, and we always travel with our own chef,” Gueye said, dismissing any suggestion of foul play and urging supporters to ignore the rumours.
