Akor Adams etched his name into Nigerian football history as Sevilla claimed a 2-1 comeback victory over Athletic Club at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán to secure their first La Liga win of 2026. The Super Eagles forward converted a second-half penalty, taking his league tally to six goals and moving him 11th on Nigeria’s all-time La Liga scorers list.

Fresh from helping Nigeria win bronze at the Africa Cup of Nations, Adams has now scored in three goals in two matches since returning, underlining his growing influence under Matías Almeyda. His latest strike also saw him surpass Rashidi Yekini, Bartholomew Ogbeche and Christantus Uche in the Spanish top flight.

Athletic led through Robert Navarro before Gerard Fernández equalised quickly. Adams converted from the spot after a handball to complete the turnaround.
