AC Milan legend advises Fonseca to avoid 'masochism' over Leão’s absence from the starting lineup
Recently, one of AC Milan's top players, Rafael Leão, has found himself left out of the starting lineup. Head coach Paulo Fonseca assures there’s no conflict between him and the player, but club legends are advising the Portuguese manager to avoid stirring up unnecessary tensions.
Details: Former Milan defender Mauro Tassotti commented that while rotating players can sometimes inspire self-improvement, it shouldn’t lead to “masochism” when it involves such a key player as Leão.
Quote: "Milan can’t afford to be without him; he’s too important for the team. I don’t know what’s going on internally, but benching him as a punishment is one thing. However, if Leão is sidelined due to a technical choice, then something’s off. When you have a great player, you need to create conditions for him to shine. You can rotate to motivate him, but don’t take it to the point of masochism,” Tassotti told La Gazzetta dello Sport.
