Abel Ferreira Addresses Rumors Linking Him to the Brazil National Team
Palmeiras manager Abel Ferreira downplayed speculation linking him with the vacant Brazil national team job, reiterating his commitment to the club following their 3-2 win over Sporting Cristal in the Copa Libertadores. Speaking to the press on Thursday, Ferreira avoided discussing the possibility, citing club president Leila Pereira’s recent comments.
Pereira stated that CBF president Ednaldo Rodrigues had not reached out regarding Abel’s availability. "I don’t talk about 'what ifs'. Our president was very clear about this matter," said Ferreira.
Pereira, speaking last week during a Paulista Championship event, emphasized: "Ednaldo never approached me to talk about Abel. He has a contract until the end of the year and we move forward." She added that the club has no fear of losing its coach and no negotiations are currently underway.
According to Itatiaia, the Brazilian Football Confederation is considering four candidates to replace Dorival Júnior: Jorge Jesus, José Mourinho, Carlo Ancelotti, and Abel Ferreira. While the CBF evaluates its options, Ferreira remains focused on his mission with Palmeiras, where he has enjoyed sustained success since 2020.
