Details: After Brighton's victory over London’s Chelsea today, Polymarket has revealed that the Seagulls have a real shot at sensationally qualifying for next season’s Champions League—even if they finish sixth in the Premier League.
Here’s the scenario: Aston Villa are currently competing in the Europa League. If they manage to win Europe’s second most prestigious club tournament and also secure fifth place in the Premier League, Brighton would automatically claim a Champions League spot by finishing sixth. That’s because Villa would qualify as Europa League winners, leaving one designated league slot up for grabs according to the rules.
Polymarket Sports currently puts Aston Villa’s chances of winning the Europa League at 50%. Villa’s semifinal opponent in the Europa League is another English side—Nottingham Forest. If Forest win the tournament, they too would earn a Champions League berth, but Brighton would be left out in the cold.
