A tough path to victory: Frances Tiafoe vomits on court during Australian Open match
American tennis player Frances Tiafoe faced a challenging moment during his first-round match at the Australian Open against Arthur Rinderknech, reports Bild. Mid-match, Tiafoe suddenly felt unwell and vomited into a container behind his bench.
Concerns arose that he might not be able to continue the match. However, after stepping away briefly, Tiafoe returned to the court and battled through five grueling sets to secure a hard-fought victory.
When asked about the incident after the match, Tiafoe explained that the issue stemmed from overhydration.
“I threw up electrolytes and water. It wasn’t food or the heat,” he clarified.
With his win over Rinderknech, Tiafoe advances to the second round, where he will face Hungary’s Fabian Marozsan.
Tiafoe, seeded 17th at the Australian Open and ranked 17th in the ATP rankings, has achieved notable success in Grand Slam tournaments, including semifinal appearances at the US Open in 2022 and 2024. He has also claimed three ATP titles in his career.
