York City's promotion to League Two has erupted into a major scandal. The team's midfielder, Hiram Boateng, could face a severe punishment following an on-field incident involving a supporter.
The decisive National League clash against Rochdale ended in dramatic fashion. The hosts took the lead in the 95th minute, but Josh Stones equalised in the 103rd, allowing York to clinch first place and earn direct promotion to the English Football League.
Immediately after the final whistle, fans stormed the pitch and chaos ensued. In one episode, several supporters approached Boateng, who was on the ground at the time. One fan made contact with the player, prompting the midfielder to get up and deliver a powerful left hook, knocking the person off their feet. The incident unfolded right in front of stewards and other spectators.
At this point, it remains unclear what sanctions will be imposed on the player, but such actions could result in serious disciplinary measures from football authorities.
