American alpine skier Lindsey Vonn will compete at the 2026 Olympic Games despite suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament in her knee. The 41-year-old athlete sustained the serious injury just a week before the competition is set to begin, but has no intention of withdrawing, as she announced on social media.

After undergoing a course of physiotherapy and consulting with doctors, Vonn decided to continue her Olympic quest. She noted that her knee is not swelling, and wearing a special brace gives her the confidence to take to the starting gate as soon as this Sunday, February 8.

For the record, the 2010 Olympic downhill champion, who returned to competition after retiring in hopes of making the U.S. Olympic team, suffered the injury following a crash during a World Cup downhill event in Switzerland.

According to Vonn herself, medical examinations revealed a complete tear of the anterior cruciate ligament in her left knee, a bone bruise, and a meniscus injury.
