Manchester United is enduring a mediocre season under the guidance of Erik ten Hag, sparking speculation about the potential departure of the coach and his successor.

British media outlets have identified another unexpected candidate to replace ten Hag. According to MailSport, among the potential replacements for United's helm is the head coach of the England national team, Gareth Southgate.

Other candidates include Brighton manager Roberto de Zebri and Brentford's Thomas Frank.

At 53, Southgate has been leading the England national team since 2016. Under his guidance, the Three Lions reached the final of Euro 2020, where they were defeated by Italy. The current contract of the coach with the national team expires in December, and it remains unknown whether Southgate will accept the Football Association's offer to extend it until 2026.

Earlier, the leadership of Manchester United made a statement about transfers that may not sit well with the team's fans.
