A return to the Bundesliga is brewing! Alaba could make a surprise comeback to Germany
Union Berlin are considering strengthening their defense after a disastrous start to the season. According to BILD, the capital club could turn its attention to free agent David Alaba, who has yet to find a new team since leaving Real Madrid.
There is more than enough justification for such a high-profile move. Union have conceded 17 goals in their first four Bundesliga matches, and in their latest outing, the team were thrashed 7-0 by Bayern Munich. Head coach Mauro Lustrinelli continues to reshape the side for a back four, but the defense is clearly lacking experience and a leader.
That is exactly where 34-year-old Alaba fits the bill. The Austrian can play both at center-back and in other positions, while he spent the majority of his career at Bayern Munich. He made 281 Bundesliga appearances for the Bavarian club before moving to Real Madrid.

BILD also names Jannik Vestergaard as another option. The 34-year-old Dane is also without a club and boasts considerable experience in German football — 185 appearances for Hoffenheim, Werder Bremen and Borussia Mönchengladbach.
