The Blaugrana have issued an official clarification amid yet another wave of speculation surrounding the high-profile refereeing scandal.

Details: Spanish club Barcelona have officially denied reports in the press claiming that the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) has opened a new investigation or reopened the closed inquiry into the high-profile Negreira case.

Barcelona's management explained that the legal procedure initiated by European football's governing body back in 2023 has never officially been closed and is still proceeding as normal. The renewed attention surrounding the case was prompted solely by UEFA agreeing to review an additional package of documents submitted by Real Madrid, which will be added to the materials of the existing proceedings.

The Blaugrana representatives also confirmed that they had not received any new official requests or demands to provide testimony from UEFA's investigative authorities in connection with the matter.

It is worth noting that the so-called Negreira case concerns an investigation into payments totaling more than seven million euros that Barcelona made to former vice-president of the Technical Committee of Referees of Spain José María Enríquez Negreira between 2001 and 2018. The Catalan club has always stressed that the reports it received were strictly consultative and analytical in nature.

Reminder: Sensational! He wants to return to Barcelona
