A rare event: Feyenoord scores three own goals in a single UEFA Champions League match
In the eighth round of the UEFA Champions League, Feyenoord traveled to face Lille. The Dutch club had already secured their spot in the next stage, but the final result still left fans in shock.
Lille won the match 6-1, but the scoreline wasn’t the most astonishing aspect—the Rotterdam side managed to score three own goals in a single game.
In the 38th minute, with the score at 1-1, Gernot Trauner was the first to put the ball into his own net. In the 57th minute, David Hancko made it 3-1 for Lille with another own goal. Near the end of the match, Trauner struck again—unfortunately, in the wrong net—completing an unusual brace of own goals.
In the current UEFA Champions League campaign, six teams have conceded 20+ goals. Of those, only Feyenoord has managed to qualify for the knockout stage.
