A promise beyond football! Tenerife make touching pledge after tragic death of their striker
Tenerife are determined to ensure that their late striker's family will not face the future alone.
Details: According to The Athletic, Tenerife have committed to financially supporting Carla, the daughter of the late Jesús de Miguel, until she turns 18. The Spanish club have made this promise following the tragic death of the 30-year-old forward on November 3, leaving behind his partner María and their young daughter, who is just over a year old.
Tenerife's majority shareholder Rayco García has also made an emotional promise regarding the player's family. According to reports citing Marca, García told the squad after De Miguel's funeral that María's little girl would never lack anything. The financial details of the long-term support have not been specified in The Athletic's report.
The tragedy occurred during Tenerife's Segunda División match against FC Andorra on November 2. De Miguel collided with goalkeeper Jesús Owono in the closing stages of the encounter and required emergency medical assistance. Despite being rushed to hospital, the striker passed away the following morning.
The football community has also rallied around his family. Fellow striker Fran Sol launched a fundraising campaign to support María and Carla. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, donations had already surpassed €100,000 by November 6, with several prominent Spanish footballers contributing.
It is worth noting that De Miguel joined Tenerife from Castellón ahead of the 2025/26 season and scored 11 goals as the club secured promotion to Spain's second division.
