A perfect farewell: Sporting completes stunning comeback in Amorim's final game
Today, Ruben Amorim, who has already signed a contract with Manchester United, coached his final match for Sporting Lisbon—and what a dramatic farewell it was.
Details: At halftime, Sporting found themselves trailing 0-2 away to Braga. The “Lions” struggled to find their rhythm in attack, while Ricardo Horta had scored a brace for the “Gunners.”
It seemed Sporting was headed for defeat, but the green and whites turned the game around in spectacular fashion, netting four goals after the break.
First, Hidemasa Morita pulled one back in the 58th minute. In the final ten minutes, Morten Hjulmand and Conrado Harder found the net, with Harder scoring twice to seal the victory.
With this win, Sporting maintains a flawless record in this season’s Primeira Liga. The reigning champions of Portugal have won all 11 of their league matches so far.
Following Amorim's departure, João Pereira, formerly of Sporting B, will take over as head coach.
Reminder: Just this past Tuesday, Sporting Lisbon shocked Manchester City in the Champions League with a resounding 4-1 victory.
