Red Bull driver Max Verstappen was forced to retire at the very beginning of the Monaco Grand Prix due to a technical issue on the starting grid.

As the lights went out, the Dutchman's car failed to get off the line properly. Verstappen, who started from second on the grid, instantly lost a slew of positions and slipped to the back of the pack.

The Red Bull Racing driver completed one slow lap before returning to the pits. The team made the call to retire the car, with Verstappen officially classified as retired from the race.
