A new biathlon tournament will be held in Sweden. What is known

Sweden will host a new biathlon tournament for national teams, SVT reports.

The debut competition will take place in February 2024 in Stockholm. It will be held outside the usual Biathlon World Cup calendar. As for the format of the competition, it will resemble the traditional annual "Christmas Race" where relays between teams take place in Germany.

It is known that teams of two biathletes will run a single mixed relay. The biathletes will run 500-metre laps with two stops at shooting ranges. In addition to Sweden, the organisers intend to involve six other leading biathlon teams, which will be announced later. The leaders of the Swedish national team, Sebastian Samuelsson and Hanna Öberg, have already confirmed their participation in the race.

The participants will compete for prizes on a par with those offered by the International Biathlon Union at World Cup events.

The new World Cup season starts on 25 November with the first stage in Östersund, Sweden.
