‘Free our supporters,’ chanted participants in the streets of Dakar this Saturday, 28 February 2026.

The Senegalese are insistently demanding the release of their compatriots arrested and convicted in Rabat for incidents that occurred during the African Cup of Nations final on 18 January. After individual expressions of support from various voices in the country, the Senegalese people held a march this 28 February.

The march took place in the streets of Dakar. The Senegalese people came out to express their support and demand the release of the 18 supporters, denouncing their detention through messages on placards held aloft in the streets.

‘Free our supporters.

Free the hostages.

No to racism,’ read various placards held up during the march. It came a few hours after Senegal's national team captain, Kalidou Koulibaly, sent a message of support to the supporters imprisoned in Morocco.
