A major blow for Senegalese right-back Antoine Mendy at Nice
Having been injured on Saturday during Nice’s league match against Le Mans, the Senegalese international will be sidelined for several months.
Nice have lost a member of their defence with the season only just getting underway. Whilst the Gym drew 1-1 with Le Mans on Saturday at the Allianz Riviera, Antoine Mendy suffered a knee injury after landing awkwardly.
Having come on in the second half of the match, the Senegalese defender finished the game with pain in his knee. To determine the nature and severity of the injury, Antoine Mendy underwent medical tests.
Unfortunately, the results confirmed the fears. The Senegalese international defender has suffered a cruciate ligament tear in his left knee, his club, OGC Nice, has announced.
Antoine Mendy will therefore be sidelined for an extended period. This is bad news for Nice and, above all, for Senegal, which is preparing for the first two matchdays of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
