A major blow for Moroccan midfielder Azzedine Ounahi
Forced off the pitch on a stretcher during Sunday’s league match, the Moroccan international could be sidelined for several weeks.
Azzedine Ounahi sustained a thigh injury on 18 October during his team Panathinaikos’s 5-1 victory over Asteras in the Greek league.
According to Greek media, initial medical examinations have revealed an injury to the biceps femoris muscle. Further tests are, however, needed to determine precisely the severity of the injury and how long he will be out of action.
Initial estimates suggest the Moroccan midfielder will be sidelined for two to three months. Such a lengthy spell on the sidelines would be a real setback for the Panathinaikos player, who will have to wait patiently before returning to competitive action.
This injury is also a major blow for the Atlas Lions. Azzedine Ounahi is expected to miss the upcoming international break in November, thereby depriving the Moroccan national team of a key midfield player.
This FIFA window will feature the third and fourth matchdays of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
