Inter Milan have suffered a devastating blow to their defensive ranks at the start of the season.

Details: John Stones, the 32-year-old Inter and England centre-back, has sustained a muscle injury to his left hamstring and is expected to be sidelined for 25 to 30 days. According to respected Italian insider Nicolò Schira, in-depth medical tests conducted at the Humanitas Institute in Rozzano have confirmed the disappointing diagnosis.

The Englishman felt a sharp pain in his thigh during the Nerazzurri's 5-3 Serie A victory over Udinese, which marked his first start for the club. Because of the injury, the experienced centre-back will definitely miss Saturday's clash with Roma at the Stadio Olimpico, as well as the opening matches on the European stage.

John Stones joined Inter during the summer transfer window after a brilliant spell at Manchester City, where he won the Champions League and six English Premier League titles. The 32-year-old defender has made more than 80 appearances for England, with whom he finished runner-up at the European Championship twice. Inter's medical staff hope to have the defender back on the pitch after the October international break.
