Once a legendary club, Sampdoria now finds itself on the brink, as the team has, for the first time in its history, been relegated to Serie C on sporting grounds. However, the Genoese side has been handed a chance at survival.
Details: 15th-placed Brescia has been docked four points in the league standings for the 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 seasons due to financial irregularities. In the just-concluded Serie B campaign, this deduction drops them to 18th place, effectively pushing Sampdoria out of the relegation zone.
But Brescia has no intention of giving up and is prepared to appeal the decision at every level. This could once again delay the official conclusion of the Serie B season.
As a result, Sampdoria will now face Salernitana in the relegation playoffs, while Frosinone, who by sporting merit was set to contest these matches, remains safe in Serie B.
Reminder: The regulatory decision has thrown the championship into chaos, as the matches between Salernitana and Frosinone were originally scheduled to kick off on May 19. However, due to this process, the games did not take place as planned.
