A lawsuit filed against Messi and the Argentina national team in the US
Lionel Messi and the Argentine Football Association have found themselves at the center of a high-profile legal scandal.
Details: According to TMZ, a promotion company has filed a lawsuit against them in a Florida court, demanding compensation for multi-million dollar losses. The plaintiffs claim they paid $7 million to organize two Argentina national team friendlies—against Venezuela and Puerto Rico—based on the expectation that Messi would play.
According to the contract, the legendary forward was required to spend at least 30 minutes on the pitch in each match to justify the sponsors’ investment and meet fans’ expectations.
However, the promoters’ hopes were dashed, leading to a financial disaster. The lawsuit states that Messi skipped the match against Venezuela entirely, despite not being injured at the time. Moreover, he was spotted in the VIP box during the game and took the field for his club Inter Miami the very next day.
The promoters view these actions as deliberate deception and a blatant breach of contract, arguing that Messi’s absence devalued the event and resulted in significant financial losses.
Reminder: It has been revealed whether Argentina defender Cristian Romero will recover in time for the World Cup.
