The potential move of reigning Formula 1 champion Max Verstappen to Mercedes has been the talk of the paddock for quite some time, and as the season break draws nearer, rumors and speculation are intensifying.
Details: According to Sky Sports, the Dutch driver has reportedly already given his approval to join Mercedes to one of the team's bosses, Toto Wolff. However, the deal is not finalized yet, as it still lacks unequivocal approval from Mercedes management.
Should Verstappen join, he is expected to replace not Andrea Kimi Antonelli, but George Russell, who is currently negotiating a contract extension with the team. It's well known that Verstappen and Russell have a tense relationship.
Russell's departure, in turn, could trigger a series of changes across the grid—especially with the arrival of the 11th team, Cadillac, which will further shake up the teams' lineups.
Reminder: Verstappen's Austrian Grand Prix ended prematurely after a collision with Antonelli in Turn 3 on the opening lap.
