A hefty sum: It has been revealed how much is allocated for implementing VAR in the Betway Premiership

Refereeing issues in the South African Betway Premiership have amplified calls for the introduction of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system in the competition, and now the authorities are starting to listen.
Details: During a joint briefing of the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture with the South African Football Association, an allocation of 90 million rand (around five million US dollars) was announced for the VAR implementation project.
The tender process for purchasing the necessary equipment has yet to begin, and only after evaluating the bids will it be clear which system will be used and what the final cost will be. Meanwhile, officials from the Department hope that VAR will be operational by the start of the upcoming Premier League season in August.
Reminder: The authorities of the eThekwini municipality have resubmitted an application to host the match between South Africa and Nigeria at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban, the home ground of Kaizer Chiefs.
