Next month, a group of professional footballers and referees from Germany plans to hold an online conference where they will announce their non-traditional sexual orientation.

As reported by Frankfurter Allgemeine, the initial date for the online conference is May 17.

This is part of an initiative aimed at promoting players, coaches, referees, and officials. Several top Bundesliga clubs support the project, created by Marcus Urban, who came out as gay during his career.

Among the clubs providing financial support to the project are Borussia Dortmund, Union Berlin, Stuttgart, Freiburg, and St. Pauli.

Ten years ago, former midfielder of Stuttgart, West Ham, and the German national team, Thomas Hitzlsperger, came out about his non-traditional sexual orientation. However, since then, no professional footballer has come out publicly.
