A German player expressed his sentiments regarding the performance of the national team
The midfielder of the German national team, Ilkay Gündogan, expressed his disappointment with the team's performance.
In an interview with ZDF, Gündogan stated that everyone in the team is disappointed, acknowledging that they allowed the Austrians to create opportunities easily.
"Let's be honest, it's not just about defense. Defense starts with the attack. It can't get worse – perhaps that's the only positive aspect right now," said Ilkay.
Certainly, it is unpleasant for them to live with these two negative results for four months. He emphasized that the national team needs to prepare optimally to be ready for the matches in March. Gündogan added that the situation must improve because they have no other option.
The German national team played a friendly match against Austria and suffered a 0-2 defeat. Throughout the match, the Austrians held an advantage, scoring a goal in each half.
After the game, the head coach of the German national team, Julian Nagelsmann, explained that they are not monsters in defending and won't be next summer. The issue lies in the fact that German players are part of clubs where they focus less on defending and more on attacking.
Interestingly, Germany has been unable to win in the last three friendly matches. Prior to this, they drew with Mexico (2-2) and lost to Turkey (2-3).
