A comical scene unfolded ahead of yesterday's UEFA Conference League match between Fiorentina and Dynamo Kyiv.
Details: According to ViolaNews, just before kick-off of Matchday 5 in the Conference League between Fiorentina and Dynamo Kyiv, the 25-year-old right-back for the Viola, Tariq Lamptey, found himself unable to enter the stadium. The stewards and security staff refused to let him in, not believing he was actually a member of the team.
Currently recovering from a ligament injury, Lamptey had come to watch the game from the stands and support his teammates, but the stewards had other plans.
The situation was resolved peacefully when a fan recognized Lamptey and explained to the stewards and security that he was indeed a Fiorentina player. Only then was Lamptey allowed into the stadium.
Tariq Lamptey joined Fiorentina from Brighton this September for €6 million. So far this season, he's appeared in just two matches for the Viola before suffering a cruciate ligament injury, from which he is still recovering.
