A tragic incident occurred last night in South Africa. Former Olympic national team footballer Luke Fleurs was fatally shot during a robbery. He was only 24 years old.

The death of the footballer was officially confirmed by his club, Kaizer Chiefs.

"We are deeply saddened to announce that Kaizer Chiefs player Luke Fleurs tragically passed away last night during a carjacking incident in Johannesburg. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends during this difficult time. The police are investigating the matter, and further details will be provided soon. May his dear soul rest in peace," the club statement said.

It is known that the incident took place at a gas station. The robbers ordered Fleurs out of the car and shot him in the upper body. When help arrived, the footballer was already dead.

Fleurs played as a central defender. In October of last year, he joined Kaizer Chiefs, having previously played for his hometown club, SuperSport United.
