A former Premier League footballer has been arrested by police on suspicion of attempted rape. He now faces a full investigation.

Details: According to The Athletic and The Sun, the former player was detained by Essex Police at Stansted Airport. The incident occurred on Sunday, 30 November.

Quote: “A man was arrested on suspicion of attempted rape and has been released on bail until the end of February 2026 while we continue our investigation,” the police statement said.

The player’s name has not been disclosed and is unlikely to be revealed for legal reasons.
