In the first match of the group stage of the Asian Cup, Uzbekistan faced Syria. The match took place in Doha as part of Group B.

In the first half, both teams displayed a dull game, and neither of them came close to opening the score in the match. With a minimal number of dangerous moments, the teams went into halftime without any goals.

The second half turned out to be very similar to the first half of the match: a minimum of sharpness and dangerous situations. Syrians, in one of the few moments, did manage to score, but the goal was disallowed due to an offside position.

Interestingly, during the 90 minutes of play, both teams only managed to shoot on target once.
