On February 7, the 2026 Olympics featured two singles luge runs. During the competition, fans on social media couldn't help but notice a quirky twist.

The spotlight fell on a German athlete with an Italian surname—Timon Grancagnolo—and, conversely, an Italian competitor with a German surname—Dominik Fischnaller.

Worth noting, this is Fischnaller's fourth Olympic appearance, and he is a bronze medalist from the previous Games. For Grancagnolo, this marks his Olympic debut.

After the opening day of competition, Fischnaller sits in third place, while Grancagnolo holds ninth. The decisive final two runs are set for tomorrow, February 8.
