José Mourinho knows that replacing Lionel Messi in world football is simply impossible.
Details: Real Madrid head coach José Mourinho shared his thoughts on Lionel Messi after the Argentine legend officially brought his international career to an end. The Portuguese coach admitted that finding the right words to describe the 39-year-old is difficult, especially after what Messi managed to show at his final World Cup.
"Talking about Messi is a complicated matter (smiles). There’s not much that can be said."
"There are no words that can describe his quality as a player. He arrived at this World Cup at 38 or 39 years old, and he was just as we all saw."
"He’s one of those players you’ll miss. We’ll have to watch some MLS games, which is something I don’t particularly like, to enjoy these last years of his," Mourinho said.
Messi officially announced his retirement from the Argentina national team after more than two decades at international level. His final World Cup came in 2026, when Argentina reached the final before losing to Spain.
It is worth noting that Messi finished his international career with a record 207 appearances and 125 goals for Argentina. He won the 2022 World Cup and Copa América titles in 2021 and 2024, while his club career continues in MLS with Inter Miami CF.
