A blockbuster transfer? Alejandro Balde ready to leave for an English club—who will join Barcelona?
Barcelona are considering selling full-back Alejandro Balde during the January transfer window.
Details: According to authoritative Spanish outlet Marca, selling the academy graduate is necessary for the club to reduce its wage bill and fund a deal to sign Manchester United centre-back Lisandro Martínez.
Balde’s position in the Blaugrana squad has become more complicated due to a lack of playing time under Hansi Flick, while Manchester United have shown concrete interest in the 23-year-old Spaniard. At the same time, Barcelona must complete a sale before signing new players in order to comply with La Liga’s strict financial fair play rules.
The Catalans’ target remains Lisandro Martínez, whose current contract with the Manchester club runs until the summer. Although Manchester United retain an option to automatically extend the Argentine’s contract for another 12 months, Barcelona hope to take advantage of the situation and explore the possibility of signing the defender during the winter window.
