Bayer Leverkusen officially clinched the Bundesliga title back in the 29th round after a 5-0 victory over Werder Bremen, but the official ceremony to present the Meisterschale took place only yesterday, following their 2-1 win over Augsburg in the final match of the season.

Top scorer Victor Boniface made a touching gesture by inviting his childhood coach, Johnson Blessing, who had paved the way for his professional career, to join in the celebration.

On his social media page on X, Boniface posted a photo from his childhood, showing him receiving an award from Blessing for his early successes. Now, they are pictured together holding the Bundesliga trophy.

Boniface missed most of the second half of the season due to an injury he sustained while preparing for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

In 23 Bundesliga matches, the 23-year-old Nigerian scored 14 goals.

Boniface is a product of Nigerian club Real Sapphire. Before joining Bayer, he played in Europe for Bodø/Glimt and Union Saint-Gilloise.
