On Tuesday, March 10, the first leg of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 between Newcastle and Barcelona took place. However, an unusual incident happened to one of the fans.
Details: According to Exeter City, a Barcelona supporter travelled to England for the match but ended up at a game involving Exeter, a team that plays in England’s League One. The confusion occurred because Exeter’s stadium is also called St James Park.
Quote: One of our volunteers came into the office to inform us that this guy had arrived hoping to see FC Barcelona. His English wasn’t very good, but from what we managed to understand, he had travelled from London. I assume he typed St James Park into his phone and simply followed the directions.
He was very upset and a little embarrassed. So we arranged a ticket for him and he was able to watch the match at the real St James Park. We will be happy to see him again anytime, said Adam Spencer, supporter liaison officer at Exeter City.
Exeter lost to Lincoln City 0–1 and are currently 16th in the table. After 36 rounds, they have 42 points.
Reminder: Barcelona defender Marc Bernal picked up an injury. In the 73rd minute he was forced to leave the pitch as he was unable to continue the match.
